Micah Nicolo is originally from the glacially sculpted hills of New York State’s Finger Lakes region but is now happy to call the central Texas limestone remnants of the Western Interior Seaway his family’s home. He has a Bachelor of Science in Geoscience and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Hobart College, and a Doctorate in Earth Science from Rice University.

Micah’s academic interests focused on understanding periods of past global climate change and their relationship to Earth’s geologic systems. Professionally, he is a Geologist and Data Scientist for Shell working on advanced numerical model simulations and machine learning based analysis techniques in support of large-scale development decisions (e.g. design, investment, and operation of hydrocarbon fields, carbon capture and sequestration projects, offshore wind energy developments, etc…).

Micah has served on the Board of Trustees for Austin Waldorf School since 2023 and has been on the Finance Committee since 2021. Micah and his wife, Amanda, first learned of the Austin Waldorf School from teachers at the New Plymouth Montessori School, who 1) were remarkably aware of Austin Waldorf from the other side of the globe, and 2) highly recommended Austin Waldorf while the Nicolos were considering a move from New Zealand to Texas.

Indeed, Austin Waldorf featured heavily in their decision to make Austin their home, and Micah and Amanda and have had the great pleasure to watch their two boys, Dean and Julian, grow through the Austin Waldorf community from kindergarten.

Micah is a life-long learner who can and will become passionate about almost any topic that he has a chance to think about. But more than anything, he seeks out and grounds himself with time spent with his family and friends; hiking, shooting hoops in the driveway, or just simply playing a board game.

“My son started at Austin Waldorf in the 9th grade. He came from public school but was very excited about the change. The high school campout was the best thing that could have ever happened for my son. He formed very tight bonds over those days and truly began to feel like part of the family.”
