Sunday, May 21, 2017 was a beautiful end to a whirlwind season for the Austin Waldorf School mountain biking team. Tenth graders Chili Nemec and Keshav Govind knew when they entered the season that it was going to be a challenging year. This year the team moved up to Category 2, which means longer (18-22 miles), faster paced races against competitors who train at more serious levels. Both Nemec and Govind achieved their goals of finishing in the top 10 in the state. Chili was edged out of 3rd place with a gut wrenching tie breaker to finish 4th overall. With equipment failures, illness, and injury throughout the season, Keshav still managed to finish 7th in the state.  In one race Keshav crossed the finish line with his bike on his shoulder! Congratulations to them both for the extreme effort, diligent training, and exceptional commitment required for this sport.

Training for next season begins in August. Contact team coaches Chad Nemec chadcnemec@gmail.com or Robert Sherlock r.sherlock199@gmail.com if you have an interest in mountain bike racing.
