Waldorf Works

Every day, all across campus, magical, invisible beings are busily working to make this school the best it can be. If you ask our children who they are, they might answer “fairies”, “elves”, or “that gnome who lives in the corner of the classroom.” Those of us at Parent Society know it’s really all of our irreplaceable parent volunteers that make this magic come to life!

Parent volunteerism is the lifeblood of this campus. This year the Parent Society has focused on initiatives and programs to encourage all parents, across all parts of the school, to get involved. Our teachers, faculty, administration, and support team give our community their very best every day, however, they cannot do it alone. It takes a village to bring it all to life!

We want to thank everyone who has shown up and put in the hours to help make this school year as great as it’s been so far. You’re the best!

But, the year isn’t over and there are still many volunteer opportunities remaining.

You may have been inspired by the yellow bookmarks Parent Society has been handing out that list just a few of the ways you can get involved. You may have gotten an “I’m so gonna volunteer” sticker when you signed up for your Winter Fair shift. You may be in regular communication with your class rep so you know what events are coming up to make room for in your calendar. You may already be on the lookout for those Spring Fair sign-up emails. If so, you are part of Waldorf Works! and we thank you for it. If not, come join us!

Opportunities to volunteer and be a part of the magic are all around us. We just need to keep our eyes open to them.

  • Is your child’s class play coming up? Maybe they need a lighting wizard to help make those young stars shine onstage.
  • How about a class field trip or campout? Even if you don’t have time to drive or chaperone, extra hands are always needed to pack up supplies and help see everyone off.
  • Think you’ll be out grocery shopping the last week of April? Add a few flower bunches for Maypole crowns to your cart.
  • Are you a kinder parent or parent of a rising first grader? Volunteering at school-wide events like the Spring Fair is an easy and fun way to connect with your future community of grades parents and get a glimpse of what things are like on the courtyard side of school.

There is nothing like a child proudly pointing out, “that’s my dad” or “that’s my mom” as we show up to support their journey through the Austin Waldorf School. As we’ve said and will say again, it takes a village to make the magic happen. Come be a part of it! Thank you for all that you do!

“One of the things we are so grateful for is the opportunity our daughter has had with varsity sports at Waldorf. Basketball has provided her an opportunity to be a leader and the chance to learn from a supportive and committed mentor. The benefits will serve her in a myriad of ways throughout her life that she cannot now imagine.”
