Curriculum Chair; Biology, Environmental Science, Math, 12th Grade Class Advisor

An accomplished botanist, Deborah Mann holds a Master’s Degree in Botany from the University of Cape Town, Cape Town, South Africa.  Interest in teaching led Deborah to pursue her Waldorf Teaching Diploma, which she accomplished at the Rudolf Steiner Center, also in Cape Town.  She has been working at the Austin Waldorf High School for 14 years; teaching both math and biology.  Her particular educational interest lies in Environmental Education.

Deborah and her husband Mark have 4 children:  Hannah and Emily, who graduated from Austin Waldorf School in 2004 and 2006 respectively, Jake is in eighth grade and Luke is in fourth grade. To deepen her understanding of the natural world and how people learn, Deborah has taken art lessons in landscape drawing and garden design.  She received a Master’s degree in Science and Math Education at UT.

Deborah also enjoys textile art and loves sewing, quilting, knitting and upholstery.  Occasionally, she plays the recorder and is partial to old English folk music.

“It is gratifying to know that my daughter has an extracurricular group where she can have fun, learn new skills, and develop leadership. The warmth of the High School Newspaper club is obvious.”
