Terri Prakash

Academic Tutor

At the University of Texas at Austin, Terri Prakash received a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a concentration in Speech Pathology and a Master of Science in Social Work. Her social work internship occurred at The UT Counseling Center. The next twelve years were devoted to raising four children, two girls and two boys. During that time she completed the three-year Foundation Studies Program in Waldorf Education under the direction of Don Melcer. In 2011, she began training to become a Language Practitioner at the Scottish Rite Learning Center and discovered a love for working with students who have dyslexia. She completed over 800 hours of practicum in two years with the Take Flight curriculum to become a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) and passed the state exam to become a Licensed Dyslexia Therapist (LDT). She has worked in Student Support at The Austin Waldorf School since 2011 and she will complete Waldorf Grades Teacher Training in May 2018 with Kathryn King’s Pleiades Initiative Program.

“I especially love the activities like gardening and handwork. I believe these skills are important in cognitive development. Many schools today are mandated to focus on academic achievement and testing while forgetting the building blocks of learning to think for ourselves and to be creative. ”
