The Austin Waldorf School High School swim team had a great 2018-2019 season with lots of hard work, great swims, fun meets, and smiles. The season finished with the team attending the State Championship meet in Mansfield, Texas on February 6th, 2019.

Freshman Connor Hawkins (‘22) swam the 100-meter backstroke earning his lifetime best time of 1:09.70, which placed him 8th in the state in the TAPPS Division III.

Michaela Judis (‘20), Bailey Judis (‘20), Sarah Janicki (‘21), and Lucy Burdick (‘21) swam all three relays.  Sammyaka Belokar (‘20) was the alternate for all of the relays and would have swum if Bailey Judis had not been cleared to swim for an ongoing injury.

The girls finished 10th in the 200 freestyle relay, 9th in the 200 medley relay, and 7th in the 400 freestyle relay.

In addition to the relays, most of the swimmers had individual races as well at the state level. Lucy Burdick swam the 100 breaststroke and finished 12th. Michaela Judis swam the 500 freestyle (rounding out an even 700 yards of competition for the day!) and finished 13th.  Sarah Janicki swam the 100 butterfly finishing 10th in the state.

The culmination of these events had the AWS girls combined team finishing in 10th place in the state, out of 33 teams.

All in all, it was a fantastic year! Special thanks to Coach Rachel Robbins who also coaches the Veritas team and a shout out to their 1st place finish in the state for their men’s team. Go Roadies!
